United Way Designation #5530 |
The Homestead Group offers a variety of residential
options to people with developmental disabilities and their families based
on individual needs.
Consistent with the agency's philosophy, all residential
options are devoted to enhancing the lives of our participants, as well
as their families through support and advocacy. We provide individualized
services that enable people to lead enjoyable and productive lives as members
of their communities.
Independent Living Services: Our philosophy is to support
the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. We commit our resources to enhance
the individual's personal choices and community membership while strengthening
natural supports. In this endeavor, we honor the right to risk, to learn,
and grow from mistakes and ultimately experience the American Dream.
Services include support plan development, Section 8 Housing
search, alternative vocational programming, budgeting, banking, payment
of bills, menu planning, cooking instruction and grocery shopping.
Support plan development is team focused based on an individual's choices,
realistic or otherwise, as we constantly negotiate with the person to develop
the plan, create dreams, connect with community and include parents, family and
peers.
Assistance
with medical and dental appointments, building relationships and community self-advocacy
are also offered.
This program provides services for approximately 72 people
in the northern Rhode Island area.
Shared Living: This program facilitates the
matching of individuals who desire to live in a family environment with
people who are interested in sharing their home or family.
Shared Living- Is it for You?
The Homestead Group is currently
in the process of recruiting Shared Living Providers.
A Shared Living Provider shares a
home with a person with a developmental disability. This can take many
forms. It could be in a family situation, in a roommate situation, in
your own home, in the person's home, etc.
The role of a Shared Living
Provider is that of a mentor, community connector, teacher, advocate and
ally.
Training, ongoing support and a
stipend is provided.
